Scaffolding In Large Group Settings
Book reading provides the opportunity to engage many children in an exciting and routine activity; however shared activities add the additional challenge of scaffolding several children at once who may have a diverse range of needs (Pentimonti & Justice, 2010).
Scaffolding techniques can be used with both high and low levels of support. It is important that teachers have a thorough understanding of both the instituted curriculum and the individual child needs in the classroom in order to scaffold successfully.
